Artist Statement
Chromatic Fantasia was born from a longing to be surrounded by color, especially during times of year in the Alaskan Interior when specific qualities of light appear only briefly. It is both a celebration of hues, seen and imagined, and an exploration of the layered dimensionality of place: built and natural, internal and external. The work invites viewers to see familiar scenery anew, blending observation with imagination to create abstract, surreal landscapes that engage with and diverge from consensus reality, referencing a coexistence between the conventional and alternative.
Imbued with the dramatic seasonal shifts of Interior Alaska, my paintings reflect cycles of creation, destruction, and transformation in both nature and the psyche. My process combines intuitive mark-making with digital tools, visually uniting organic spontaneity with intentional design. This hybrid approach mirrors the tension and harmony between artificial and natural forces that shape life in Alaska. Acrylic paint becomes a conduit for translating thought and feeling into prismatic gestures of mood and memory.
Chromatic Fantasia is both a personal meditation and an open-ended world, offering space for introspection, connection, and immersion in color. It invites diverse interpretations of its polychromatic imagery, honoring the many ways we experience, perceive, shape, and are shaped by the places we inhabit.
